Who Pays for Hospice?

Who Pays for Hospice?

Hospice care includes items, services, and/or drugs that are related to a patient’s terminal illness and related conditions. Items, services, and/or drugs that are not related to a patient’s terminal illness and related conditions are not covered under hospice care.

Seasons Hospice will bill Medicare, Medicaid, and/or private insurers for the cost of hospice care. Medicare and Medicaid provide full coverage of hospice care while private insurers may have a cost share or co-payment associated with hospice care. An annual deductible and/or out-of-pocket maximum may also apply for private insurers.

Upon referral to Seasons Hospice for hospice care, a Seasons Hospice Insurance Benefit Specialist will review and validate your hospice care benefits through all insurance providers you report. Our Benefit Specialist will report all covered hospice services and any cost share that may apply from a private insurer, along with any plan exclusions or benefit maximums. To ensure we are able to review and provide complete and accurate coverage information, please be sure to provide your Hospice Care Consultant, or Admissions Coordinator with all active insurance coverage and cards.

Financial Assistance

At Seasons Hospice, we appreciate that the cost of healthcare may be a burden to patients and their families. Seasons Hospice is proud to offer all patients experiencing financial hardship the option to apply for Financial Assistance.  Seasons Hospice is here to support our patients and families in their time of need.

Please submit any questions regarding payment for hospice services to AnswersPatientFunding@Seasons.org. A Seasons Hospice Benefit Specialist will reply within 2 hours during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 6:30pm CST), or on the next business day.
