Namaste care involves meaningful sensory activities to stimulate the senses, promote relaxation, and offer comfort and serenity to our patients. It is designed to make patients feel valued and seen, and can enhance the lives of people of any age and with any disease, as well as providing moments of peace and tranquility to family caregivers. It is often particularly meaningful for patients with dementia.
What Would Namaste Care Look Like For Me or My Loved One?
Our team can provide bathing, dressing, grooming, hydration, and additional sensory activities as meaningful activities instead of tasks to check off a list. This creates a more relaxing atmosphere for both our patients and their families.
Sometimes care activities can be distressing or difficult for patients and stressful for family members. If a patient experiences confusion or distress during tasks like bathing, our team strategizes with the family to understand why this may be happening and comes up with approaches that will be less stressful for all. Namaste Care is designed so that each person’s individuality is respected and approaches to care are designed to maximize comfort.
Namaste Care Can Include:
- Gentle hand or neck massage
- Aromatherapy via the use of oils, lotions, or candles
- Spiritual readings
- Playing recordings of relaxing music
